- CBC’s Sheila Coles interviews two members of Prairie Spruce Commons “The Morning Edition”
I remember the day well. I was working out at the university and was just getting into my car to go for lunch. I turned on the Radio and heard on CBC an interview with a woman who was talking about cohousing. She talked about the alienation of people from their neighbours and about how cohousing was a place where children could be children. I thought about my son, then in Grade 4. I thought about the neighbourhood friends I had when I was in Grade 4. Where we roamed around the neighbourhood and explored our town, I saw my son, sitting at home playing video games or being driven to his swimming lessons. I thought about how he didn’t know any kids in our neighbourhood. Cohousing sounded like the solution to both the alienation I felt and what I observed in my son. I am ecstatic that cohousing is finally coming to Regina. If not for my son, who will be close to graduating before the community is built, but for myself and for future families who can raise their children in cohousing. I look forward to great things that we can do as an authentic community. …Henning Mortensen
